Southport is a coastal town in Merseyside, England. It is a popular destination for tourists and day-trippers from the larger towns and cities of North West England.
It has been described as “unspoilt” by some travel writers, with the majority of buildings being Victorian or Edwardian, but there are also modern buildings in the town centre. The town is home to an art gallery, museum and theatre.

The Southport Flower Show
Southport Flower Show is one of the largest independent shows in Europe and it takes place every July at Southport’s Winter Gardens. It has been running since 1883 and it attracts over 250,000 visitors to Southport every year. Southport also hosts an airshow, a firework competition and a jazz festival.
Southport Pier
The promenade goes on for miles, with the pier at its center. The entire pier is 1460 yards long and was the longest in England until 1897. It was then shortened to its current state after a fire but is still the second longest currently in use!
Like most seaside resort Southport has a theme park called New Pleasureland. It replaces the original Pleasureland that was here for 94 years until 2006. Splash World is situated on the back of Dunes Pool and opened in June 2007, an indoor water park and fitness centre which makes for a great day out. Meols Hall is a manor house in Southport, home to the Hesketh family for centuries. Not only does it boast a rich and fascinating history, but its upkeep and furnishing has been overseen by generations of the same family. It also has beautiful grounds with historic features. such as a 6th-century Viking settlement.
The Mecca Bingo Club, originally called the Garrick Theatre, was held to be the finest theatre in the country when it opened in 1932. The exterior is as it would have been then and is a wonderful example of Art Deco architecture.
One of the most iconic features at a Victorian resort was a Promenade. Southport’s is fairly typical in that it’s flanked by grand hotels and formal gardens on either side. This museum is also home to the Model Railway Village, featuring a beautifully landscaped, sheltered garden. Based upon typical southwest Lancashire architecture, the layout includes a country scene, village and town.
